How Concierge Nurse LLC began
Jesse was a patient I took care of in the ICU. His sister Valerie was living out of state but abruptly came home when he was admitted. Jesse had a genetic condition causing him to be bed bound and at times non-verbal. Knowing with his condition his life expectancy would not be normal, he had many conversations with his sister before. During the admission, there was concern for ability to swallow. I anticipated the doctor would be asking about a feeding tube. I asked Jesse and Valerie their thoughts on feeding tubes so they had time to think. They were adamant on no feeding tubes. I also had an open conversation with Valerie about his wishes for resuscitation if he were to need it. They wished for no heroic measures and for God to take Jesse when it was his time to go. Valerie was extremely appreciative on all the education I provided. This helped her understand the next steps going forward. When the doctor came in to explain he would need a feeding tube, Valerie was prepared. Our conversations helped her and Jesse to develop their own care plan. One they felt comfortable with, one that gave Jesse his quality of life. Because quality to him meant eating real food. The risks were discussed and moving forward Jesse ate as he wanted. They chose to continue treatment to get him home on hospice. Jesse lived out his final weeks at home, spending time with his family.
When helping this family, I wanted to help them more, to be an advocate she could trust when she had to return to her home out of state. With the constraints of hospital policies, I did not feel I could help more. This is why I created Concierge Nurse LLC, to help families without constraints of institutions. To assist a family in making their own plan, centered on what truly matters to them. To provide the full picture of what life looks like in each direction presented.
My clinical background is in emergency room and intensive care nursing at a major St. Louis hospital. With more than ten years of healthcare experience, my knowledge of navigating high-stress, complex situations and decision making is irreplaceable. Knowing the system gives me the advantage to help you navigate moving forward.
